About Pakistan Passport Photo Requirements

Pakistani passport photos are governed by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP). The 35x45mm format is standard, but the digital specification is unusually restrictive: the file size must not exceed 20KB for online submissions — far smaller than the typical 100KB-3MB accepted by most countries.

DGIP strictly prohibits glasses in passport photos. The background must be plain white, and the expression must be neutral. The face must be clearly lit with no shadows. Pakistan's online passport portal (passport.gov.pk) enforces the 20KB file size limit automatically, rejecting larger files.

Pakistani passport applications can be submitted online through the NADRA/DGIP portal or in person at any Passport Office across Pakistan. Overseas Pakistanis apply through the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation or the nearest Pakistani consulate, where printed photos meeting the physical 35x45mm specification are required.

Common Mistakes in Pakistani Passport Photos

1

File size exceeding 20KB

Pakistan's 20KB maximum is extremely strict — a typical phone photo is 2-5MB. The DGIP portal will automatically reject any file over this limit. Our tool compresses the image to comply while maintaining visual quality.

2

Wearing glasses

Glasses are not allowed in Pakistani passport photos under any circumstances. Remove all eyewear, including clear prescription glasses, before taking your photo.

3

Shadow on white background

The DGIP system checks for background uniformity. Even a faint shadow behind your head will cause rejection. Stand well away from the wall and use diffused lighting.

4

Face not centred or turned

Your face must look directly at the camera with no rotation. The nose must be centred horizontally in the frame. Even a slight turn is flagged by the biometric check system.
